As the days pass, the other sisters begin to look at Catherine differently, to disagree with her, even to ignore her orders. Worse, there are the memories that the girl unleashes, so that it is as though all the intervening years never took place. As though a fateful summer long ago was happening all over again. Finally, the visitors arrival triggers the nuns re-examination of her own past, with dramatic consequences.Liza Costello’s writing has been published various magazines like The Stinging Fly, LITRO, Confrontation, Southword and Crannóg, and broadcast on RTE Radio 1. One of her stories was chosen for publication by Christina Patterson, as guest editor for Mslexia, who described her writing as shot through with a dark humour that edges towards the savage. She has been shortlisted for the Seán O’Faoláin international short story competition and the Francis McManus short story award. In 2011, she won the Dromineer Literary Festival poetry award. She lives in Dublin.
